Home School parents

Notice to Home School Parents:

Changes in Utah law now require that home school affidavits be notarized. The notarized affidavit will remain in effect until the home school parent notifies the School District that the child will be returning to the public school system, or that the student’s residence has been moved out of the School District. (See attached affidavit)

The changes to the law also give home school parents full control over curriculum and instruction, including content and time requirements. This does not apply to the extent that the student is dual enrolled in a public school.

The Emery County School District still maintains an open offer to include home-schooled students in District testing programs upon request.

If a home-schooled student returns to the public school system, they will be required to meet all graduation requirements established by the School/School District and the Utah State Board of Education in order to receive a Diploma of Graduation from a District high school.

Home-schooled students may participate in extracurricular activities or school-day activities at the school within whose boundaries the student’s custodial parents or legal guardians reside. Eligibility for extracurricular activities within the School District shall be governed by Board Policy JJJA – Extracurricular Activities for Home School and Private School Students.

Please reference Board Policy IHBG – Home Schools, for additional information regarding home school policy.

Thank you.
